HEVC Main10 · HLG · Peer-to-peer

Warmth,
in ten bits.

A native HDR video calling app. True 10-bit HEVC Main10 + HLG, from capture to display. Adaptive to whatever each device can handle. Peer-to-peer. Free.

What Calido is

A video call that keeps the highlights.

Most video calls crush your world to 8-bit Rec.709 and throttle the bitrate to save on cloud bills. Calido keeps the 10-bit wide-gamut signal your phone actually captures, through the encoder, over the network, and into the other device, and pushes bitrate to the ceiling your connection allows.

Pipeline

End-to-end HDR.

HEVC Main10 via VideoToolbox. HLG transfer preserved at every stage. A 10-bit media stack, top to bottom, with no silent SDR fallback in the HDR path.

Adaptation

Every device uses the best it has.

HDR isn't all-or-nothing. If your phone can render HDR but can't capture it, you still receive HDR from the other side, and send a refined SDR stream back. Mixed-capability calls work the same.

Bandwidth

Higher bitrate. Lower latency.

Most call apps throttle aggressively to keep cloud bills small. Calido is peer-to-peer. When your network has headroom, we use it, and the round-trip stays tight.

Platform

Native on every platform.

Swift on iPhone and iPad. Kotlin on Android next, arriving after the iOS release has had the testing a cross-platform HDR pipeline deserves.

Transport

Peer-to-peer, SRTP-encrypted.

Media flows directly between devices over encrypted SRTP. Our servers sign you in and wake the other device. After that, they stay out of the way.

Content

Nothing is recorded.

Calido does not record your calls. No audio, video, or frames are stored on any server. TURN relays only see encrypted packets they cannot read.

Call content retention: 0 bytes, 0 seconds.

How Calido stays free.

Picture quality should not sit behind a subscription screen. Calido is ad-free and has no paid tier.

Servers, TURN relays, and push infrastructure are paid out of pocket by the operator. The plan is to keep it that way.

Required information

Policies and disclosures.

Calido collects the minimum it needs to make calls ring on the other device and to let you sign in. No advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs, location, or contact-book access.

Get in touch.

Calido is operated by a single developer. Privacy requests, safety concerns, data exports, and bug reports all go to the same inbox and are answered personally.
